The Hour is Getting Late Edition

Todays links of interest:

  • R.I.P. CDs?
As downloads exceed CD sales, the industry prepares for the funeral. Another in a long series of "death of CD" reports.
  • FBI checks gambling in Second Life virtual world
It turns out that when you give people a world where you can build anything most choose to build casinos. The rest gamble. The FBI is just catching on to this. Wait till they find out about the pyramid schemes.
  • Keith Richards snorted dad’s ashes with cocaine
This is such a perfect headline that it kinda feels like an April Fools joke.
  • FBI goes virtual to investigate SecondLife casinos
Because, lord knows that online gambling in a virtual world is *exactly* the type of thing that the FBI needs to spend their time on. Instead of, you know, finding murderers and rapists and terrorists. Also: we spent our time at the DuroStore instead of a casino? That ain’t right. This obviously calls for a visit from the Medialoper Review Labs.
  • EMI releases its first album without copy protection
And, to make things even better, it’s a pretty good album: "The Good, The Bad & The Queen." On a side note — while he probably had absolutely nothing to do with any of it, we like that an ex-Clash member is on this record, because this is exactly the type of issue on which they were always on the side of the angels.
