The A.V. Club gives much love the The Replacements’ "Hootenanny," which announced to the world that, hardcore be dammed, they were going to do whatever the hell they wanted. The only reason that we don’t remember it as an all-time classic is that it got overshadowed by their next three records, which are as good as any rock ‘n’ roll albums ever recorded by anybody ever. I was going to write "but still, most bands would kill to come up with such a wonderful, beautiful mess," but most bands really wouldn’t.
