The Weekly ‘Loper – June 3, 2007

June 3, 2007 by Jim Connelly

While you were recovering from what seemed like your first day off in forever, here’s what we were looking at:

  • What I’ll Do On My Summer Vacation – It’s Summer time! And for one exec, that means that it’s time to discover how that whole website thingy could be a bit of a help.
  • Apple Launches iTunes Plus: Downloads Without DRM – I actually took a look at the iTunes Plus today. Right now, there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason why some albums by, say, The Rolling Stones are Plus, and some aren’t. We trust that will change.
  • Google’s Next Five Killer Applications – What’s next after Street View? Find out, in a Medialoper Multiverse exclusive!
  • Goodbye Gilmore Girls – Rox celebrates the life of what may end up being a weirdly iconic show. One thing I’ll miss: no more scenes of Lauren Graham and Kelly Bishop squaring off.

In a summer that may well mark the peak of Pottermania, New Orleans hosts a convention full of fans who turn their love of the Harry Potter books into slash fiction, wizard rock and authoritative websites.
  • Google Zooms In Too Close for Some
The crazy cat lady gives an interview to the New York Times. It’s worth noting that the story includes an even better picture of the cat as well as a more detailed view of the inside of her living room. Somehow she’s supposed to be fighting for her privacy. As a great sage once said "mission accomplished".

Goodbye Gilmore Girls

June 1, 2007 by Rox

I’m not bitter. I firmly believe it was time. The Gilmore Girls had a great run. I know there are some that were not happy with the last two seasons. I can’t say that I didn’t have my own criticisms, but overall, I believe the series finale worked quite well, despite the fact that it wasn’t intended to be a series finale. I’m of the opinion that it very nicely brought the series full circle – the ending echoing the final moments of the pilot.

That’s not to say that I won’t be happy if the much rumored reunion movie actually happens in a few years. I would love to see how Amy Sherman-Palladino envisioned the series ending and I would love to hear Rory or Lorelai utter the much guessed at final few words that ASP has been keeping under lock and key. But if it doesn’t happen, I’ll be okay with that.
