It’s fairly common knowledge that the Loper team members like to enjoy an alcoholic beverage from time to time.
So when I was browsing through one of my gazillion foodie magazines last night (it was either Gourmet or Bon Apetit – I can’t remember which) and ran across a blurb about iBar by Talking Panda, I immediately thought, Cool! It’s yet another use for my iPod and a must have for Loper team meetings, which sometimes end with visits from the Martini Martian, much to at least one Loper’s dismay.
iBar is a downloadable program for the iPod which gives you over 1000 drink recipes, most of which have audio files full of mixing instructions and anecdotes on the drink’s origin. There are also histories of liquors and other related topics, tips and bar tricks and you can even learn to toast in eight languages.
I can just see earbud-wearing bartenders in ultra-hip clubs mixing drinks with one hand while dialing up recipes with the other. I guess my question is: Is $29.95 too much to pay for this information, most of which I can find for free on the web or I already own in a book. Maybe.
Maybe not, since that’s only about half of what certain Lopers pay for their single-malts and it’s kind of a fun new way of getting the information.
Hmm, a game. Which ‘loper is most disturbed by the Martini Martian (easier: which ‘loper is least disturbed)? Which ‘loper pays more for single malt than his wife pays for shoes?
Considering how few bartenders seem to know the recipe for a Manhattan these days…seems like an excellent investment.
Which Loper’s single malts last longer than his wife’s shoes?
Seriously, if only one Loper is disturbed by the Martini Martian there’s work to be done. Just wait till you see his new cape.
This Martini Martian…when does he appear?
Let’s just say that he’s like the Great Gazoo, in that only Kirk can summon him.
And for some reason, he needs a battery-powered megaphone to do so . . .
