“Hey,” Kirk said to me earlier this year, “did you know that Courtney Barnett was in a band for awhile?”
“I did not.”
“Here, let me play them for you.
And that’s how I discovered the amazingly dreamy and utterly gorgeous songs of Immigrant Union.
A psychedelic folk/country band from Australian, Immigrant Union was started by Brett DeBoer from the Dandy Warhols & Bob Harrow over in Melbourne, and both of their albums are highly recommended, especially their second album Anyway.
On “Shameless,” Brett DeBoer & Bob Harrow effortlessly harmonize over a plethora of swirling guitars and fluid piano, with Courtney Barnett coming in about halfway in with an extra, twisty guitar hook. Nothing I love more than one more layered guitar part coming out of nowhere.
It’s the closest thing to Seance/Remote Luxury-era Church I’ve heard in quite awhile.
“Shameless” performed live in 2012
