The Santa’s Got A Brand New Bag Edition

  • ‘Godfather of Soul’ James Brown dies, 73
Some wonder what happens to the soul after you die. It’s a difficult question that’s a billion fold more complicated when you have as much soul as JB did.

Little-known fact: James Brown taught Kirk to dance. Better-known fact: Kirk skipped his lessons to learn to play guitar from Cletus Clark (sp?). Even better-known fact: Kirk skipped guitar lessons because he discovered punk rock. There’s a lesson in here somewhere.

I think Cletus Clark is still alive and kicking. As of 2005 he was still volunteering his time teaching guitar at a Clovis youth center. He must be 95 years old, I believe he was the first person to play electric guitar at the Grand Ole Opry way back in 1936. He doesn’t quite have the flamboyancy as the mighty James Brown though.

Cletus is very much alive and kicking! I’m taking lessons from him as we speak and he goes to the church that I go to..

Cletus is the man… His darling wife, Lois is great too… “Lois & Clark” is what they go by. They are both very dear to what I believe and hope to become someday. I performed for them @ Life Cathedral in November. That was my only performance in years. I am blessed to be able to share my generations’ style with someone of his stature. I will call him tomorrow and see what he might like to add…
