Contrary to popular mythos, MTV was never wall-to-wall videos. From the start, they broke up the videos with news, concerts, interviews and special programming.
And in our little world, the best of their special programming was I.R.S. Records Presents The Cutting Edge, which aired the last Sunday of every month for over four years.
From the start, The Cutting Edge presented a wide-ranging view of the musical underground, but it didn’t truly take off as a great TV show until somebody had the idea to make Fleshtones lead singer Peter Zaremba the host.
