Album: John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band
Year: 1970
John Lennon’s first studio solo album proper — he’d done a three experimental records with Yoko Ono and Live Peace in Toronto — was exactly the kind of radical statement of purpose that people were expecting from him.
It’s also one hell of a break-up album, especially in that the object of the break-up was Lennon’s idea of the fame that being a Beatle provided him. And of course, like all break-up albums, he still kinda loved that object.
